Wayanad is in the north-east of Kerala state with administrative headquarters at the municipality of Kalpetta. Wayanad District came into existence on 1st November, 1980 as the 12th District of Kerala consisting of Mananthavady, Sulthanbathery and Vythiri Taluks. The name Wayanad is derived from Vayal Nadu which means the land of paddy fields. It is a picturesque plateau situated at a height between 700 meters and 2100 meters above the mean sea level nested among the mountains of the Western Ghats on the Eastern portion of North Kerala and on the sides of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka States.

Wayanad Culture. The culture of Wayanad, mainly, can be related to the tribal culture. This place is home to a huge population of Adivaasis or tribal people. Some of the main tribes that live here include Adiyars, Paniyas, Kurumas, Kattunaikar and Kadans along with a few other ones.

Day 1 : Arrival to Wayanad

Pick up From Bangalore and drop to wayanad homestay. Overnight at Wayanad. Blooms Green Farm is situated 150m from the bus route in a 15 Acre extent organic farm. There are 2 & 3 Bedroom villas for guests accommodation. Most of the vegetables, milk, egg and several non-vegetarian products are from the farm itself. Cash crops are coffee, pepper, cardamom, coconut, areca nut, nutmeg, cocoa etc. There are many fruit and medicinal plants, which may be interesting to those who are passionate for agriculture. Livestock diversity has cows, goats, kennel, rabbits, poultry etc. There is an indoor court facility for badminton, table tennis, chess, and also equipped with mini gym accessories. or Wayanad Blooms is situated 1KM away from the main bus route from Sulthan Bathery to Mananthavady. Accommodation units in this facility are non-conventional style cottages and huts. 

Day 2 : Vist Sightseeing Points

Sightseeing to Kuruva Island, Banasura Sagar Dam and Thirunelli temple (awesome location). Overnight at Wayanad..

Day 3: Visit to Chembra Peak

Sightseeing to Chembra Peak and Soochippara Waterfalls. Overnight at Wayanad.

Day 4: Visit to Pookode Lake

Sightseeing to Sulthan Bathery Jain Temple, Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary and Pookode lake if time permits. Overnight at Wayanad.

The district headquarters is located at Kalpetta municipality with a population of 29,602 as per 2001 census.Wayanad enjoys a salubrious climate throughout the year. The mean average rain fall in this district is 2322 m.m. Lakkidi, Vythiri and Meppadi are the high rainfall areas in Wayanad. Annual rain fall in these high rain fall areas ranges from 3,000 to 4,000m.m. High velocity winds are common during the south west monsoon and dry winds blow in March-April.
