Munnar got its name from its strategic location at the confluence of three rivers – Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala Rivers. ‘Moonu’ means ‘three’ and ‘Aru’ means ‘river’. The region is placed at a height of around 1,500 m to 2,695 m above sea level and was once the summer capital of the British in South India. Later it was developed for cultivating tea plants.

Day 1 : Punarjani Traditional Village

Day 2 : Pothamedu Viewpoint

Soaked in mist and greenery, Pothamedu Viewpoint is a refreshing place. Hike up to the vantage point for a panoramic view of the tea plantations and the rolling hills. It is a terrific sunrise and sunset point too. You can even behold the surrounding valleys and the spice and tea plantations.On a clear day, you can spot the Idukki Arch Dam and the Muthirapuzha River from here. Even on a rainy day, you can simply sit there, feel the serenity, relax, and watch the amazing view. The majestic backdrop is ideal for clicking numerous photographs.

Day 3: Top Station

Situated at a height of 1,700 m, Top Station is the highest point in Munnar. It was the uppermost railway station in the Kundala Valley. It is the meeting point of 3 mountain streams, the Kundala, the Mudrapuzha, and the Nallathanni.You can get a clear view of the Western Ghats and the Theni Valley. The rare Neelkurunji flowers also bloom here once every 12 years. Other highlights from this viewpoint are the tranquil lakes, the gorgeous valleys, the verdant tea gardens, the milky white waterfalls, and the exotic forests.
